The client: Australian Government department

The client’s challenge: The Department identified that it needed assistance in operationalising its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) co-designing Local Implementation Plans tailored to the needs and objectives of different divisions and teams and developing a RAP Impact Framework. This tool needed to effectively measure and report on the Department's performance against the RAP, thereby demonstrating the impact of their efforts to staff members, stakeholders and the wider community.

GIRA’s response: GIRA created an approach that was aligned with the Department's values and vision, ensured that RAP initiatives were integrated into the organisational structure and that areas of responsibility were assigned through the Local Implementation Plans. Key to this was fostering a sense of personal investment among staff members (ie ‘what's in it for me’) and ensuring that they understood the value and impact of the RAP outcomes in undertaking current and future work. Incorporating and validating stakeholder input in this process was vital to ensure all perspectives were considered and valued. The work undertaken by GIRA ensured that RAP activities were embedded into the fabric of the Department, reflecting its values and vision while making a meaningful impact and achieving sustainable outcomes.
